Mary Oglesby
Biographical Sketch
Mary graduated summa cum laude from Florida State University in April of 2011 with
a Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology and Family and Child Sciences. As an
undergraduate student, Mary was involved in the social psychology lab of Dr. Mary
Gerend as well as the clinical psychology research lab of Dr. Jesse Cougle. While in
the Cougle lab, Mary assisted with several research projects, including conducting her
own honor's thesis research in which she examined the effects of repeated checking
on responsibility for harm appraisals among a sub-clinical population. In her current
position, as a full-time Research Assistant with the Anxiety and Behavioral Health Clinic,
Mary is responsible for numerous aspects of a multi-site, smoking-cessation and panic-
prevention study funded by the National Institute of Health. Within this capacity, Mary
is responsible for a variety of tasks including participant recruitment, scheduling and
tracking of participants, and maintaining databases using SPSS and excel. In addition,
she conducts screening interviews with potential research participants and therapy
clients. In the future, Mary plans to pursue a doctoral degree in clinical psychology.
Her research interests include the etiology, maintenance, and treatment of anxiety
disorders, specifically obsessive compulsive disorder.
