Biographical Sketch

My primary research interest falls at the interface of attention and anxiety. More specifically, I focus on two basic features of attention allocation: automatic and controlled responding to threat-relevant cues. I have primarily investigated these processes within two diagnostic entities: Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) and Panic Disorder (PD). Apart from attention-anxiety relations, I have a secondary but related interest in quantitative approaches to classification and measurement of anxiety. The substantive area remains roughly the same (PD and SAD), however I utilize diverse statistical approaches to better define constructs and diagnoses of interest. I am especially interested in assessment issues (e.g., scale construction, adaptation, psychometrics, EFA/CFA methodologies), and various quantitative methods (e.g., structural equation modeling, taxometrics) and accordingly, I have an active interest in advancing an empirical taxonomy of anxiety generally, and PD/SAD more specifically.
