Biographical Sketch

Kiara graduated from Whitworth College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry. After graduation, she worked at the Laboratory of Clinical Science within the National Institute of Mental Health investigating the neurobiology of neuropsychiatric disorders, specifically obsessive-compulsive disorder, using molecular, neurochemical and genetic techniques. Specifically, Kiara conducted research on the SERT gene knockout mouse, as well as clinical phenotypic investigations of OCD, including comorbidity, familial genetics and subtypes. She is currently a doctoral candidate in clinical psychology at the Florida State University . Kiara's primary research interests lie in understanding the etiology, comorbidity, and maintenance of obsessive-compulsive disorder. She is working on several projects including the investigation of genetic and environmental vulnerability factors associated with OCD, and an exploration of the phenomenology of OCD and compulsive hoarding.
