Confidentiality

All the personal information that you provide for us will remain confidential.  Your DNA sample will be given a code which will be used during the remainder of the study.  Personal identification data will be recorded only so we can contact you, if necessary, in the future.  This personal information will be limited to a few select senior personnel and not to the general research team.  It is possible that some information obtained from these studies will be published in the scientific literature.  If so, your name will not be used.

The purpose of our research is to better understand the role of genes in behavior and emotion.  We believe that there may be differences in genes that affect levels of chemicals in the brain and, in turn, behavior and emotion.  We will be studying a gene which may affect how chemical messenger systems in the brain (called neurotransmitter systems) function.  Other genes that may be involved in behavior and emotion may be studied once they are identified.  However, any additional testing or analysis of genetic material will be related to the original intent and purpose of our research -- the connection of genes to behavior and emotion.

Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns that you may have.
