(1) Vaginal distention is delivered by placing a distensible balloon into the vaginal canal. The balloon is then distended with different volumes of water (computer controlled.) |

(2) To deflate this balloon (escape response), the rat must insert her head into the tube. If the rat fails to make an escape response in 15 sec, the balloon is deflated anyway. |
