The Howard D. Baker
Undergraduate Research Award
Annual Competition
The Department of Psychology is pleased to announce the competition
for the Howard D. Baker Undergraduate Research Award. This
award is presented annually near the end of the spring term to the undergraduate
psychology major that has completed the most meritorious research project.
The recipient of the award receives $300 and the student's name is
engraved on a plaque located prominently in the Psychology Department.
The award is named for Professor Howard D. Baker who, in 1991,
retired after 41 years of teaching in the Department of Psychology. Professor
Baker was widely recognized as a master teacher, prolific researcher, and
a dedicated and gifted mentor to young researchers.

To qualify for this competition, the student must:
1. Be a Psychology
major in good academic standing.
2. Complete an empirical
research project.
3. Submit FIVE
copies of an APA-style paper, which provides a review
of previous research, a description of the methodology and
results, and a brief discussion of the findings. The text
must be no more than 15 pages in length (not including tables and references); font size
must be no smaller than 12 point;
all four margins must be one inch. SUBMISSIONS THAT DO
NOT COMPLY WITH THESE REQUIREMENTS OR THAT ARE SUBMITTED LATE
WILL NOT BE EVALUATED.
4. Submit a letter of endorsement
from the faculty sponsor. Students should instruct their faculty sponsor to give them a printed copy of the letter in a sealed envelope so that the student can include the letter along with their paper.

Papers and letters of endorsement are due Monday, April 4th in
room A209 PDB, no later than 12 noon. The Undergraduate Training Committee
evaluates the papers and selects the most meritorious research project.
**Panama City Campus students who wish to participate in the competition must
submit 5 copies of their papers and a letter of endorsement from their faculty
supervisor via USPS or Campus mail to the Psychology Advising Office on
the Tallahassee campus well before the deadline to ensure consideration.
