Eating Behaviors Research Clinic

Student applicants to clinical doctoral program:

I do not plan to review applications for graduate school admission for Fall 2012 from applicants who are interested in working in my lab.

Research Interest

Translational research in eating disorders, including biological and psychological factors that contribute to binge eating and purging behaviors; nosology and statistical approaches to classification; epidemiology and cultural factors that influence eating disorders and body image.

Current Research

Current projects include an examination of psychological and biological factors that may distinguish individuals with purging disorder (characterized by recurrent purging following normal or small amounts of food in individuals who are not underweight) from individuals with bulimia nervosa and individuals without eating disorders. We are also using ecological momentary assessment to understand factors that precipitate purging as well as consequences of purging in purging disorder to identify targets for treatment. Finally, several papers are being developed from a large longitudinal and epidemiological study of bulimic syndromes in college cohorts sampled in 1982, 1992, and 2002 that include 10- and 20-year follow-up assessments of the 1992 and 1982 cohorts.
