Applied Behavior Analysis: The application of basic principles of behavior to the solution of important problems in society. Areas of interest include: ethics and professional skills, applied research, developmental disabilities, education. Performance Management & Technology is another area of interest. We work with businesses in Tallahassee to solve organizational and performance problems.
Research program consists of two lines of work. The first line focuses on factors that influence perceptions of attractiveness (e.g., hair and other physical cues, body image). Findings are viewed from a social evolutionary perspective. The second line of research focuses on the role of religious symbols and pregnancy on perceptions of professional competence and personality characteristics.
My interests are in teaching and providing supervised experience
in Applied Behavior Analysis for undergraduate students and those
in the master's program in ABA at the Panama City campus. We have
been fortunate to have gotten wide community support for ABA as evidenced
by the variety of settings and populations we have served. These include:
public and private schools; juvenile justice; residential facilities
and workshops for individuals with developmental disabilities; facilities
for the aged; classrooms for children with autism; home-based services
for children with autism, developmental disabilities, or problem behaviors;
foster care settings; and, early intervention. In addition, our students
have conducted behavioral community psychology research projects and
have the opportunity to play active behind-the-scenes roles with the
Florida Association for Behavior Analysis (FABA; visit our website
at http://www.fabaworld.org/)
as conference program assistants.
My primary interests are within the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), which is the application of basic principles of behavior for changing socially important behaviors. In addition, I am interested in teaching and training undergraduate and graduate students about ABA and the clinical utility of behavior-analytic treatment for a wide variety of individuals, including those diagnosed with developmental disabilities and/or emotional/behavioral disorders. Particularly, I am most intested in the following:
Early intervention strategies for individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
The use of ABA in school settings and within mental health agencies for individuals with and without developmental disabilities.
Innovative clinical applications of ABA.
Behavior-analytic approaches to college teaching.
Effective approaches for problem behavior reduction.
Innovative strategies for training graduate students in an ABA Master’s program.
Investigating claims and recommendations in behavioral treatment.
Investigating the use of response effort manipulations.
