Learning Disabilities
Work on learning disabilities has focused on a number of
problems over the last ten years. We have conducted basic research on the kinds of
language difficulties that cause young children to experience problems in acquiring
beginning reading skills, and we have also conducted intervention research to examine the
kinds of instruction that are most effective with these children. We have also conducted
longitudinal investigations of the ways that achievement difficulties are related to
changes in the motivational patterns of young children. Finally, we have produced both
tests and training materials that can be used by practitioners to diagnose and instruct
children with learning disabilities.
